Sunday I had to say goodbye to Robert McNamara, who went back home to Ireland. He had just finished his four months here at IITA working on the Research for Development approach. I promised myself not to make any more fun of Robert on this blog since he is a really sensitive guy, so I won't. Last week I ran with him around the fence circling the IITA campus. It was the longest run of my life, and I literally felt like dieing. But we did it anyway, and it felt f*cking good afterwards. The whole run is about 15km when you include the many hills we had to climb. Two days I had to recover from that run, but it was definetly worth it.

Now that Robert is gone, national replacement came in. It's a women called Buki who is NYC (National Youth Core), meaning that she has finished her studies, and now has to work for free for a duration of one year. That the way the cookie crumbles down here in Nigeria. Government demands one year without pay after educating you. I'll have to learn her what I do, so she'll be able to take over when I'm gone. So in a way, I guess that can be considered as a new task. In the next two weeks I'll really have to start creating output on my final project, which is hard cause there is still so much I want to learn about cassava in Nigeria. Like last Friday I spoke with Flannigan, a commercial farmer from Mozambique who started up a livestock farm in Nigeria. He contradicts almost everything I read about the whole cassava transformation, and considering he has been in the field dealing with this for a lifetime, I think he could add valuable information to my project. I really need to go and spend a weekend at his farm for an interview, but that is only possible after my deadline, so bit of a problem there. I'll have to ask Artevelde for an extension, hope it gets green light. He's also a big Texas Hold'em fan, so that would add some flavour to the visit.
Well, that's it for now, tomorrow I'll upload some pics and video, but the kbps rate today is just too slow, I would sit here for hours and hours...

Lectoren tevreden... :-)
